5 Minutes with Wyldest

Five minutes with Wyldest

Glastonbury, an EP, a 4th studio album and a UK tour. Wyldest is really doing it all this year. We managed to have a 5 minute chat with the dream pop sensation in between her busy schedule.

Thanks so much for taking a minute to chat to us. Your UK tour kicks off this September and you played Glasto earlier this summer! How has your experience of 2022 been so far?

“It's been a whirlwind of anxiety and gratitude that shows are back. It had been a while since I'd played live - so I thought for a moment I'd lost the ability but thankfully it came back in time for Glasto. I've mainly been experiencing the musician life from a studio - rather than being out there meeting people, so I can't wait to get back on the road.”

Your album “Feed The Flowers Nightmares” comes out this September 9th how does it feel to be releasing this next month?

It feels quite cathartic - but also a little vulnerable at times - it's a very special album to me. I am very proud of it and can't wait for people to hear it, but also once it's released it doesn't belong to me anymore - it's out there and I have no choice but to start working on the new thing (that's a scary thought ha).”

If you could collaborate with one person—dead or alive—who would it be?

“This is a tough question and the answer to that constantly changes, At the moment I'm obsessed with Johnny Greenwood and his soundtrack work. I saw him live last year perform some of his most iconic pieces with 8 orchestral musicians and a projector screen. I think it changed my subconscious trajectory - I've really ramped up my own soundtrack/orchestral work as a result. So Johnny. And maybe he can bring his mates Thom and Nigel along if I'm allowed?”

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career?

“Remember that you are the artist and they want to work with you - not the other way around.” My producer/engineer pal said this to me a couple of years back. I've always had a tendency towards imposter syndrome - like 'I'm lucky this person is talking to me' or 'I don't belong here and people will find out'... He said that and somehow it changed my view on being a musician - you don't want to work with people unless they are a fan of what you do. What would be the point? It doesn't matter how amazing their studio is/who they've worked with - THEY are still looking for people to work with that inspire them creatively and we as the artists are at the hub of that. Having a song you've written is a very powerful thing and you need to have the right collaborators around to bring it to the finish line. So yeah, it's made me have a bit more pride in what I've made and also feel more in control of my career.”

We are stoked to see you play at your headline show in London on the 20th of September – what can people expect at your show?

“People can expect to hear the entire new album 'Feed the Flowers Nightmares' played from start to finish. 47 minutes of dream-doom-pop. I'm very nervous and excited as most of these songs have never been played live - but I feel like it's going to be special for me and hopefully everybody else in the room.”
