Five minutes with Alex Amor

In anticipation of her upcoming single release titled half of me and her first headline London show, we chatted with rising indie-pop star Alex Amor.

Hey Alex! Good to speak to you… You played the Great Escape Festival this year and released some more exciting singles – how has your experience of the last year been?

“2022 has been a brilliant year so far! It's been a dream to play so many festivals and shows over the past 6 months. Playing TRNSMT last month was a real highlight too. The reception to my most recent singles has been so heart warming, which makes me excited for the rest of the year and releasing more of the music I've been working on.”

As an up-and-coming artist what do you want listeners to get from your music?

“I hope my music is a warm hug for you on a rainy day, or a familiar friend for whatever you're going through. I've always wanted my music to be a safe space for you to feel your emotions and hopefully put a smile on your face in the process.”

You have a Spotify playlist that you curate and update fortnightly… how do you usually discover new music?

“I'm actually a huge music nerd and have a thirst for newness, so I'm always on the hunt for new artists and songs. Usually I'll sift through New Music Friday every week or ask my friends and fans what they're listening to.”

Your new EP “The Art Of Letting Go” releases this October, where did you draw your inspiration from?

“I've always had an issue with control, so I decided to explore the theme of 'letting go' in its different forms - letting go of the past, people who hold us back and the things that no longer serve us in life. It is about getting out of your own way, choosing spontaneity and the dedication to living each day as it comes. For this EP, I was open to finding inspiration from everything around me: from books to movies and conversations with my friends. 'The Art of Letting Go' has been the first project where I haven't felt limited to my own life as the sole source of inspiration for my songs.”

We’re so excited to see you perform the new EP at your headline show in London this September! Are there any songs you’re most looking forward to playing?

“All of the new EP! Last year, I made a pact with myself that if a song isn't enjoyable to sing live, then it won't come out. In particular, there's a song on the EP called 'Pleasing People' that's the ultimate self empowerment anthem.”

Be sure to pre save Alex’s upcoming single half of me, and grab tickets to her headline show in London on Friday 16th September here. Don’t forget to connect with her on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
