5 Minutes with Coach Party

As their debut album Killjoy is released, we sit down with indie four-piece Coach Party to have a chat about working with Chess Club Records, their upcoming UK tour and loads more!

Hey Coach Party! It’s been a incredibly busy 2023 for you so far! Thank you for chatting to us today. Your latest single All I Wanna Do Is Hate came out recently and has received rave reviews! How has it been for you to see the great, positive reaction to the release?

“The response to this one has been mad. It's always nice to see, but this time feels like a step forward in terms of how far the song seems to be stretching. We've had much more reaction from America and other foreign lands with this song, which is really encouraging.”

We’re really excited for your show at The Cluny, Newcastle on September 27th! What can we and your fans expect to see from you during the show?

“It'll be a reet canny neet, pet. Reet canny.”

Your debut album Killjoy is due for release this September via Chess Club Records. How does it feel to be working with a label that has such an exciting and diverse roster?

“It's awesome to be with a label who are so enthusiastic about our music, and who have a track record for signing great stuff. They're not just a means to release a record; their emotional involvement really pushes us to do our absolute best every time we go into the studio.”

Describe for us in three words the vibe of one of your gigs.

“Masterclass in sass.”

As an artist, what do you want listeners to get from your music?

“ It's great when people dig it on a musical level, but the kind of comments which send us to bed happy are the ones which come from a place of relating to the songs. Music is about bringing people together, so if someone can listen to Coach Party and think "yeah, me too", then we're achieving what we set out to. Once you release a song, it's not yours any more; instead you hope that listeners will own it in their unique way, and the more the merrier.”
